Manali – Top Places You Must Visit Within the City

In our previous article, we wrote about the best attractions in the vicinity of Manali . In this article, we’re going to let you in on Manali’s best places to visit within the city. If you’re having a lazy day or you just want to chill out and don’t want to travel too further outside the city, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

Enjoy a spiritual moment at the Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa Monastery

This monastery was built in the 1960’s by Tibetan refugees in India, and it is very close to the Manali bus stand. It is barely at a 5 minute walk from the bus stand. This monastery has a stunning architectural style with an eye catching yellow roof. The murals in the monastery showcase the non-violent philosophy of Buddhism. There are also small shops within the compound where you can buy Tibetan souvenirs.

Shop your heart out at the Mall road or the adjoining Manu market

Depending on your budget, you can choose to spend a whole evening buying the specialties of Manali at the mall road or the adjoining smaller flea market, Manu market. The mall road has famous eateries such as Chopsticks, known for its Asian cuisine, where you can relax after shopping for shawls, Himachali caps and other high quality woolen clothing items. You can read more about the best restaurants to eat at in Manali in our previous article. If you’re in Manu market, you can bargain with the shopkeepers and hunt around for Tibetan jewellery, footwear and other souvenirs. Also, there is some great street food to be had here!

Relax in serenity at the Van Vihar National Park

If you are travelling with children, and want to distract them while taking a break yourself then head out to the Van Vihar National Park. The park is full of deodar and pine trees, with the river Beas gurgling near it. There is a small lake in the park with a paddle boat facility. You can relax here after you are done shopping, or you can take a book here on an early morning and enjoy being in the lap of nature without having to travel of out the city. There is a nominal entry fee of Rs. 20. This definitely makes it one of Manali’s best places to visit within the city.
