Manali has some wonderful trekking options in its vicinity. There are some great treks for beginners, which are challenging enough to be fun & yet moderate enough, so as not to be very taxing for first-timers. These treks bring with them a guarantee of gorgeous foliage and some stunning landscapes and views. The Vashisht- Jogini Waterfall-Solang Valley Trek (fairly easy trek, duration of 5-6 hours)

Drive to Vashisht and enjoy bathing in the medicinal waters of the hot Sulphur springs here. You will feel utterly relaxed and rejuvenated after doing so, and will be ready for your trek. From Vashisht, you will start the trek and will encounter the Jogini waterfall en route. Then the trek will lead you through the village of Burwa, and finally you will reach Solang Valley. Here you can take in the gorgeous vistas of mountain peaks and glaciers. From here, you can drive down to Manali where you will probably want to have a hot meal!

Trek to Gulam Lang from Old Manali (moderate difficulty trek, duration of 6-7 hours)

You will start this trek in Old Manali and you will along the right bank of the Manalsu River. This river has been named after Rishi Manu. The first half of the trek is quite easy, being a gradual walk. The second half, however is a bit challenging as you have to go up the hill. Enjoy the beautiful scenery on this trek, and don’t forget to stop to take photos. Do carry plenty of water with you on this trek, which is one of the best treks near Manali for beginners.

Lama Dugh Trek, which starts from Hadimba Temple (more challenging trek due to high altitude, duration of 3-4 hours)

Drive up to Hadimba temple, which in and of itself is an incredibly beautiful place to see. After you have feasted your eyes on it, and have reveled in the spiritual experience, you can start the trek. The trek will be a climb up the hill towards Lama Dugh, which is a gorgeous grazing pasture for animals. From here, you can see meadows of wildflowers, a view which looks straight out of a movie. You can also see Hanuman Tibba, Indrasan and Deo Tibba from here. Bring some snacks along to enjoy at the top.

Legend has it that Arjuna, the great warrior used to meditate at the spot of the Arjuna Gufa, or the cave of Arjuna. As a result of Arjuna’s powerful meditation, he was granted the Pashupati Astra by Lord Indra. This cave is located at a distance of 4 kms from Manali, in the vicinity of Prini village. It is a must-visit for those who are enchanted by lore and mythology.

 Visit the Vashisht hot springs and temple early in the morning in order to beat the crowded peak hours. Located in the small village of Vashisht, the temple was built in the honour of Sage Vashisht on the bank of the river Beas. There are separate bathing areas available for men and women, where one can enjoy the medicinal properties of the hot Sulphur springs.
