Buddhist Piligrimage
Amid chants of "Buddham Sharanam Gachchami", walk through a 13km-long forest trail which Lord Gautam Buddha had taken to reach Rajgir from Bodh Gaya around 2,543 years ago.
Over 500 pilgrims converged on Jethian in Rajgir district, around 100km southeast of Patna, for the journey, marking the success of the first-ever Buddha Heritage Walk introduced by the Bihar Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC).
Legend has it that Buddha took this route when he decided to move to Rajgir after attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. He was welcomed at Jethian by Bimbisar, the King of Magadh Empire whose capital was Rajgir.

Visit the historical towns of Nalanda and Rajgir - the most renowned universities of ancient India. Established in the 5th century B.C. it remained a live center of learning till the 12th century A.D. Rajgir was the capital of the powerful Magadhan kingdom, ruled by King Bimbisara.
Learn more about Buddhas last sermon that he delivered at Vaishali and announced his Nirvana. The majestic Ashoka Pillar and Chaumukhi can be seen here. Buddha finally entered perfect tranquility - the state of Mahaparinirvana, at Kushinagar. The place has various stupas and temples as well.
The famous Jataka tales - stories of his previous births..it is at Sravasti that he spent a long time recollecting these.
Day 09: Kushinagar - Sravasti
Morning visit Kushinagar the various stupas and temples. Kushinagar is the Place where Buddha entered perfect tranquility - the state of Mahaparinirvana.
A visit to Sahet Mahet (capital of ancient kingdom of Kosla, Jetawana Gardens Buddhist temples etc.) is a must before proceeding to Lumbini in Nepal,where Lord Buddha was born in 623 BC..
