Hawa Mahal

Known as the Palace of the Winds, this peculiar structure is little more than a facade in one of the most populous areas of Jaipur’s old town. It was built in 1799 and today is the emblem of the pink city. From the street, there is a building of five heights that in its interior is little more than three meters deep. Its windows with lattices were used by the women of the zenana to be able to contemplate the life in the city far from the indiscreet eyes of the pedestrians. It was built in 1749 by Ishwari Singh to commemorate the victory in front of his stepbrother Madho Singh Later Ishwari ended up committing suicide before the unstoppable advance of the Maratha Army. His 21 wives and concubines threw themselves into the fire of his funeral pyre. Located near the door of Tripolia (in the bazaar of the same name) you can access its highest part from where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the city.
